My name is Gavin Woodcock, student at the University of Salford and budding creative professional. I've wanted to have a career in media since as long as I can remember, in some form or another. When I was younger, I was captivated by animation, with my experience being in 2D cartoon design and initially followed a path in Art during college. When I was suggested to move from Art to Media in order to learn to bring those cartoons to life, I moved into general creative media, where I also experimented in the basics of film & TV, radio, podcast, SFX and documentary production.
After college, a media career unfortunately became second concern as I focused on finding general work, however I still kept chasing my interest in creative professionalism by doing freelance graphic design in my free time, working on projects like logo designs, educational slides and short flash animations. However, as I grew so did my interests, and after taking up a hobby of producing comedy web videos, I found myself more drawn to working with cameras and editing software. After finding stable work, I turned my efforts to getting back into pursuing a creative career path and enrolled at university to develop my skillset and connections.
I enjoy being a storyteller and my favourite thing about telling stories is joining lots of small elements together to slowly build one bigger picture, something that lends back to my history of cartoon design and animation, where connecting shapes, lines and frames eventually leads to a fully-fledged living character, right up to my current passions of writing and editing, and their elements of context and characters, cuts and sounds.
During my time at university, I hope to meet tons of new people both formally and informally, build my portfolio, contact book and work ethic, and bring at least a few of my many stories and ideas to life.
